Flower Festival 2015Hello!
For the months of July into early September, DailyFractalFeatures and DOUBLE-DUCKS are running a Flowers Challenge. It is known that many of you enjoy making this type of fractal and hope that lots of you will take the time to make something pretty. Flowers can be generated in most if not all fractal software. For instance Ultra Fractal, Apophysis, Mandlebulb 3D, Incendia, Chaotica, and Frax plus even other fractal-generating programs.
1. Please enter over at DailyFractalFeatures via the Flower Festival folder. You do not have to be a member anyone is allowed.
2. No Fractal Manips.
3. Light Maps for UF are allowed.
4. For further questions, direct them to this blog:
1. Two to three Entrants per person
2. Admins can enter but not win.
3. Please paste a working link in your details, stating clearly that this is an entry for the "Flower Festival 2015" at :icondailyfractalfeatures: or :icondouble-duc
Apophysis Plugins - Creating them in Visual StudioHey folks,
during the last week, I had C-91 around () and obviously, we did some fractal work together During this, we needed to create some ad-hoc plugins to do the things we wanted to do. Well - not that it's something new for me because I kinda do this all the time but it gave me the idea that maybe I should write up how you actually create the plugins with x86 / x64 processor architecture support. I'm well aware that it's not very well documented so I try to fill this gap now with this little guide.
First off, I don't like to call it a "new" way to create plugins. You still create them with the same interface you had before when JoelFaber (afaik, it was him) set up the plugin infrastructure. But I felt maybe since Apo is sort of bound to Microsoft Windows and Visual Studio is a super comfortable development environment every professional Windows developer has at hand anyway, I could use VS and C++ to create them instead of a random GNU-C environment which is
To any affliate of Fractal-ResourcesTo any affiliate of Fractal-Resources, you can now submit fractal resources to the group! I didn't realize that was not available to you...so yeah. Submit stuff!
Fractal-Resources Mission Statement
Fractal-Resources is a place for all fractalist to find resources for every fractal generating program. We do use the submission system for resources on DA, we then collect and organize these resources in our favorites gallery then we provide regular updates on our journal for the newest resources. Everyone is invited to browse our Collections and find the resources they need to help them create fractal art. Fractal-Resources also publishes links to resources off of the DA website. Our goal is to be the one stop place to find what you need. Membership is open to anyone and we welcome both new and experienced fractal artists to join.
If you would like us to submit your resources for you, just note us.
The Great Gradient Pack Challenge EndsThe challenge is over.
There are four gradients that were entered.
I am not sure if there is a need for any voting due to the small number that were entered. I will confer with tatasz and there will mostly be a feature of all of them. Perhaps there will be a go around of this again when the season changes again in a few month.

The Great Gradient Pack ChallengeIf you haven't noticed already, but tatsz has removed the miscats that had been clogging the dA Fractal Resources gallery. So go now and look at how wonderful it looks! Also go give her a big thank you!
tatasz and I were discussing a couple weeks ago at having resource challenge. We both decided on having a gradient pack challenge "like people releasing a small pack, let's say 10 or 20 gradients, and the most voted top three gets a feature or something." I would love to see gradients usable for Apophysis, Ultra Fractal, Mandelbulb, Incendia or Fractal Explorer. I do know other fractal programs can have gradients made for them. Just these five programs is what I have seen gradients for so far.
The Great Gradient Pack Challenge Rules:
1. The theme can be freestyle or Xmas/Yule/Hanukkah/Kwanzaa color themed
2. Amount of gradients must range from 10 to 20.
3. Challenge will run from December 8, 2013 to January 6, 2014.
4. There will be three places. The top 3 people who ge
Fractal Resources feature part 2I have decided to do a monthly fractal resources feature that will be posted here and on DailyFractalFeatures. I have not decided if I am doing themes or it will be just random. I will take suggestions from the community, actually I request it. Just note me the resources you want to suggest. You can note me at deadened-glow or at Fractal-Resources.
If you have any input, like if I should do themes...like all tutorials, parameter packs, gradients etc. Please leave a comment below.

Fractal Resources featuresI received a note from Lady-Compassion about the lack of Fractal DDs. I actually cannot remember when the last time I saw a fractal resource DD. I, deadened-glow, have received only one DD for a gradient pack that I made.
I run Fractal-Resources presently to keep a semblance of order to the present fractal resources, cause good luck finding any real fractal resources in dA's actual Fractal Resources gallery. I'm not going in on my consternation on that topic right now. I bet a lot fractalists feel very similar to how I feel about that issue. : |
I kinda got this idea from rockgem. Who is interested in helping me have either a weekly or bimonthly journal on fractal resource features of peoples' favorite resource? It can be a new one or an old one. It doesn't necessarily have to a feature on just tutorials or a script specifically. Maybe one of each for each journal...?
I need help in making this work.
The TutorialWhen I first started using Apophysis, I did not know anything about the program. I just jumped right in and learned enough about the program to get by. Heck! I didn't even know how to use the render function for the first couple of month using the program. I eventually figured that out and ever since then my fractals have that less of screenshot feel to it.
The one thing that any new fractalist should look at are the tutorials that are available for their program they are using. While in my case, it was not a 'how-to use the program' tutorial, but rather 'how-to make a specific kind of fractal' tutorial. Like in case of the ones that caught my eye and I have used them several times in helped me with my various fractals.
Tutorials are indeed a wonderful resource for any new fractalist. Since I am at the moment big into Apophysis. What are your favorite tutorials for your p
Why The Staff Is Wrong About TracingFriends at deviantART, here is the article that was part of the inspiration to create this club. Before you can understand this article you'll need to have read it.
While I have the utmost respect and appreciation for the job that the CEA team does, I was shocked, disgusted, and incredibly disappointed when I came across the aforementioned article. I've been a member of deviantART for quite some time and I remember the days before all this tracing nonsense was allowed.
Given recent events which I will not directly link to, but I'm sure many of you know what I'm talking about- it's hard for me to believe that the staff is still turning a blind eye to tracing, still letting this farce go on. In the past few months there have been several incidents related to tracing that have caused large stirs in deviantART, and I thought it would perhaps become clear that a lot of people are angry. It's not just a few people. Remember the uproar o
DAM your photosNo disrespect intended...
Digital Asset Management (DAM)is a tool you should learn about.
I want to present two basic ideas, in 3 simple steps (and tips), to help you manage your photography work better. The first is managing you work on you computer (organizing it), and the second is the keywords and tags you add to it when submitting your work on-line.
A few words of introduction first. If you are a starting photographer, this is very important for you. The experienced ones will find it hard to Re-manage all the work they have done, and they probably have a system they work with (working, or not). However, if you are starting now to accumulate your photographs and submitting it on-line, this is essential for you, and easier to do.
Shell we begin?
1. Managing your photographs
This simple method is based on dates and places. The steps are all centered on creating a folder structure organized around the dates and places you took the pictures on.

An open letter to Spyed***IMPORTANT***
Before you read the following letter that I have written to dA, please take the time to familiarize yourself with the situation at hand. Some people might think that it is a trivial matter in a sense it is as these are merely features on a website but it is the principal behind the actions that matters.
A world famous electronic musician recently released a music / digital art montage on DVD. I have nothing against this musician himself in the past he has done some wonderful work and I will admit without reservation that I have several of his CDs. Recently his DVD was advertised through a top journal on dA this musician even became a member of the website. But why? DeviantART is not a place for music files that was decided early on. So what does this artist have to offer for the community?
Recently he was subscribed till hell freezes over a status reserved for select staff members. He was also given the ability to cu
Establishing a Process for Better ArtMany of you are likely to have at least a general grasp on what I'm going to talk about, but for just as many, if not more people, this is going to be new and very beneficial to your progress and success as an artist.
The topic of discussion today is process. We all have a process for our work, some of us are very meticulous, while others are more sporadic, but there's generally a few basic steps that any successful artist is likely to employ.
LACK OF PLANNING
The main problem I see, and that most art instructors are likely to see, is lack of planning in people's work. People get too excited for their idea, and they jump right into their final piece, maybe after doing only one sketch.
From there, they end up struggling as they try to finish the piece. Maybe the background wasn't well planned enough, maybe the pose was too stiff or didn't make sense, maybe the composition is bad, but it's too late to fix, maybe the line art was too sloppy and the piece is suffering, or maybe they
Ever wondered about IR photography (Infra Red) ?In General
Well, a few words about Infrared.
I will not get too technical cause its not my strong side, just a few words about it. Infrared photographs show a kind of thermo effect. Trees with white leaves and luminous white clouds against colored skies are the most common use for it. Many photographers on DA have tried it in the last few years and it seems to be more and more popular.
The Infrared opens a window on a parallel world intriguingly different to the one we usually see. The effect is surreal ans it shows a different kind of "documenting reality".
Here you can see the scene in normal view
And here is when using the IR filter -
We can't see Infrared light without the filter, we can only see it when It's isolated. Infrared photography is often confused with thermal imaging. It's not, It's just shows an effect similar to that. The difference is basically one of wavelength of electromagnetic radiation.
The filter shows the object be
Don`t be RudeSo, been wanting to write one of these for a long time, i have made journals regarding this subject before.
So, Basically what i want to say is that people should show more support to the people who upload free-to-use stuff on this site.
Icons, wallpapers, themes, stocks, all free to use, all they ask for is a thanks or a fav if you use it, and they hardly get any!
I am not sure why it is like this, but it seems to be a common thing, in all these customize sections.
Just now i saw a wallpaper with 2000 downloads and 28 faves, 10 comments.
I see icons with 70 000 views, thousands of downloads, and 80+- faves.
Many of them write in the artist comment; "please show your support"
and we should!
Why should people who work hard for others keep on doing it if we can`t take a few sec to write thanks or a half sec to fav if we use or like it.
You can find things, legal, free, all they ask is some sort of reply, show your support and change this.
Thank you for reading

Choosing Your CameraA GUIDE TO HELP CHOOSE A CAMERA
I get this question in my messages/emails everyday so I thought I'd write a news article to get it out there for you! That way my emails don't go unanswered either.
QUESTION - What is the best camera to buy?
ANSWER - There is no 'best' camera out there, a camera is suited to what YOU want. Think about it, if you old school and want a vintage look to your photographs, then the best result for the style you want would be a film camera, possibly a Holga / Polaroid.
If you are a budding fashion/portrait/landscape photographer, then you'd go for a higher end digital photographer, unless you want to go back to photography roots and use film for this.
On the other hand, if you're a documentary photographer you could use digital or film. If you're a budding Henri Cartier-Bresson, you might be using film exclusively, to achieve that very raw film look.
If you're a professional photographer then you need something that matches your job,
